There they go again

My running friends are at it again.

Sunday is their third of six marathons in six months: The Cape Town Marathon in Cape Town, South Africa!

If you can, why not chip in a few dollars toward their cause? From their website:

As young women living in 21st century America, it is all too easy to take for granted the freedom and liberties that are inherent to most women living in this time and place. The book Half the Sky opened our eyes to the realities of life for many women in oppressed areas. The atrocities suffered by many of the women whose stories were told in that book amazed us almost as much as their perseverance and strength of character. After reading Half the Sky we decided that we wanted to do something to help improve the lives of women in disadvantaged areas. We combined this motivation with our passion for running to create Race for Change.

I’ve never met two more dedicated, ambitious, and just all-around awesome women. They deserve our support.

The Latest in the Ray Gricar Mystery

The Altoona Mirror is running a piece in tomorrow’s paper about the latest developments in the Ray Gricar case. This latest tip, being investigated by the FBI, involves the Hells Angels, a theory I have heard before, but only in passing and never in this much detail.

According to the article, an unnamed source claims Mr. Gricar was murdered at the behest of a former member of the Hells Angels who was upset over a stiff sentence he received in the 1990s. (If it is the case I think it is, that sentence was 4 to 8 years, which is hardly “stiff” under the sentencing guidelines in effect at the time.)

I have no way to test the veracity of this latest claim, but it would be nice to finally close out this local mystery.
